Bombas are (Really) the Best Travel Compression Socks
It happened right before I turned 30. I was on a cross-country trip to San Francisco to visit my family. I tried to put my shoes on again as we approached landing, but my feet were so swelling that I couldn’t fit my shoes in my sneakers. As I was bouncing off the plane I realized that this is what I get for being that person who removes her shoes on a flight. It soon became apparent to me that this could lead directly to deep vein thrombosis (or DVT).
According to the Mayo Clinic, DVT can develop after prolonged sitting, such as on a plane. Pulmonary embolism can occur when one of these bloodclots travels through the bloodstream to your lungs. This can lead to serious complications.
For my 30th birthday, I purchased my first pair compression socks, a pair of nylon socks from Amazon. Although they are supposed to improve circulation and prevent swelling during long flights (as long as you don’t forget to move during flight), the struggle to get them off and on was real. After wearing them for a few hours, they are almost too tight and painful. Bombas, the brand that makes no-show socks that don’t ever, ever slip down, came along with brand new compression socks for 2019.
Drawerful of Bombas Socks and compression socks have super soft cotton and mild to firm compression levels. The Bombas 15-20mmHg compression socks are superior in comfort and value.
They were my go-to socks while I was waiting to board my flight from San Francisco to New York. These socks were much more comfortable than the standard compression socks I normally travel with. Although they felt tighter than regular socks I wasn’t having to struggle with them. They fit right below my knee and felt as if my entire calf were being wrapped in warm blankets. Bombas come with a honeycomb knit arch support system that is great for people with high arches such as me. These socks are also seamless, have a Y-stitched heel, and provide the most comfortable compression socks that I’ve ever wore.
I put on the bombas socks
They were on my feet just before 2 p.m. California Time. I didn’t take them off until I returned to New York at 1 a.m. Eastern Standard Time. After eight hours of wearing them, I noticed a slight imprint below my knees where the tightest part of the socks had touched my leg. I didn’t realize I was wearing compression socks for the whole flight. My legs were not as itchy or pinched as when I wore generic compression socks. I also didn’t feel any discomfort or swelling on long flights with no compression socks.
